On 25th
of December, the exhibition of the new industrial design "Peace! Friendship! Design!" was opened in the New Tretyakov Gallery, where the Russian microphones Oktava MКЛ-5000, MД-55 and MЛ-16 were presented. Modern and museum exhibits from the line of Oktava electro-acoustic plant (part of the Rostec State Corporation) became an example of the development of industrial design in Russia.
The exhibits were presented by more than 30 participants of the project, including Polytechnic Museum, the Museum of Architecture and Design, UrSAU, MSPU named after S.G. Stroganov, and StPSAAI named after A.L. Stieglitz, and Rostec State Corporation enterprises.
“The 50s that were chosen by the authors of the project as a starting point for collecting the exposition were for Oktava the time of the appearance of the first legendary samples of microphone equipment. Now the Competence Center has been established at the enterprise, combining the functions of industrial design and engineering, which allowed overcoming the design barrier that restricted Russian microphones from entering the world market,” said Lyubov Stalnova, marketing director of Oktava.
“As for design, most of the new Oktava line continues the series that became famous thanks to the MKL-5000 tube microphone, which we presented for the exhibition,” said Vladimir Shipilov, design director of Oktava.
Exposition that presents over 300 exhibits is thematically divided into 12 sections: aviation and cosmonautics, automobiles, bicycle and motor equipment, water transport, heavy machinery, tools and equipment, medical equipment, radio electronics, optics, sports, houseware.
Founded in 1927, Oktava, PJSC is Tula plant that remains the leader in the field of microphone production for many decades. Its production is known over the world not only due to high technical characteristics, but also due to a stylish recognizable design. That is why the microphones of Oktava took a place in the exposition devoted to the history of Russian industrial design,” said Alexandra Sankova, director general of the Moscow Museum of Design.
Each of represented Oktava microphones can be considered a symbol of the era. Dynamic microphone Oktava MД-55 is a bright representative of industrial design of the 50s. The microphone was known among not only radio presenters, musicians and sound engineers of the USSR. Many people saw it in the scenes of the movie “Queen of the gas station” and other films.
The MЛ-16 bi-directional tape microphone, developed in the early 60s of the 20th century, was produced by Oktava in the 70s for broadcasting, sound recording, amplification systems and field gears from indoors. Vladimir Vysotsky sings in this microphone on archive photos from the Leningrad Nuclear Physics Institute named by B.P. Konstantinov.
The MКЛ-5000 tube microphone in a recognizable bottle design, which is characteristic for the Oktava premium line, illustrates the formed trend in the design of modern microphones. The model in a brass body incorporates the best achievements in the field of high-quality sound reproduction. In the MКЛ-5000 design, a wide membrane and a lamp cascade are used; with the switches embedded into the housing, three directivity characteristics can be achieved. Among Russian stars, vocalists of the Turetsky Choir work with this type of microphone. A microphone is also in demand in the theatrical field, for example, a talented director Talgat Batalov uses it in his work.
Exposition will be available for visiting until March 1, 2020. Address: Moscow, Krymsky Val, 10. New Tretyakov Gallery (West Wing).
